My client is a medium sized leading multi-disciplined engineering consultancy based in Newcastle who has enjoyed sustained growth and increasing profitability since their inception over 20 years ago. Operating across mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and enviro nmental engineering streams, they bring a wide range of skills and services to their clients within Australia and around the globe.

Their ongoing success can be explained by their high levels of enthusiasm and belief in providing a professional and innovative range of services. Due to continued growth coupled with an internal promotion, they are now seeking to appoint a Engineering Design Manager to manage the business across their Structural and Mechanical functions.

The Role

Answering to the Engineering Director, the role of Engineering Design Manager combines hands-on engineering functions with management of a team of structural and mechanical engineers and drafters.

You will be involved with structural design and assessments of brown, greenfield, and industrial upgrade projects within heavy industry (such as materials handling within the mining industry, steel or chemical processing plants). You will also be the client liaison for many of these projects.

In addition to your engineering duties, you will also assume responsibility for a team of approximately 12 people, made up of engineers and drafters operating across structural and mechanical functions.  

You will be part of the senior management team of the business, and will have input into the direction of the business.

Some travel is to be expected, depending on the locations of the projects you are working on.

The Person

We are seeking a highly experienced and degree qualified Structural Engineer who either has existing management experience, or who is seeking to move into a management role.

You must have solid engineering experience in the area of heavy industrial steel structures and conducting detailed analysis work, and interrogating the work of others. Experience with SpaceGass design software is important.

You may come from another engineering consultancy, or from an in-house engineering team where you have worked on similar projects.

You must also possess the interpersonal and communication skills required to deal with clients on a daily basis.
